Legal requirement

Compulsory Basic Training can only be provided by an Approved Authorised Training Body (ATB). Nicks Motorcycle Training is a DVSA approved training body. As such, all training courses carried out by Nicks Motorcycle Training are governed by the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency.

Course Agreement 1

All Instructors currently registered to Nicks Motorcycle Training are DVSA Approved and trained to a high standard. All students attending one of Nicks Motorcycle Training training courses will agree to follow the instruction and guidance of the appointed registered Instructor for the purpose of Compulsory Basic Training. Students who fail to follow the necessary requirements or DO NOT respond to training will have their training course terminated. If you are a complete beginner/novice in regards to riding a motorcycle/scooter and if your EXPECTATION is to complete your Compulsory Basic Training (CBT) in one day, we would suggest completing your training on an automatic and then returning for a further day of training on a geared bike.

Course Agreement 2

All students on CBT courses must sign a disclaimer before any on-road training can commence. You must confirm that you are satisfied with the training you have received so far and as a result feel sufficiently competent to proceed with the next element of your Compulsory Basic Training involving a minimum of two hours riding on the public highway. You must be able to confirm that you feel sufficiently competent to conduct the training on the Public Highway in the weather conditions prevailing at the time and that the motorcycle/scooter that you are riding is suitable for you.

Failure to sign this declaration will result in the course being unable to continue as the on-road element will be incomplete and you will need to book more onsite training. This clause has been brought in as part of a new structure to the Motorcycle Training Industry Insurance Policy.

Course Agreement 3

Option to do your Compulsory Basic Training (CBT) on a 125cc Manual (Geared) motorcycle.

You have an option to do your Compulsory Basic Training (CBT) either on a manual (geared) or automatic motorbike.

However, as a road safety organisation it is our job to ensure the safety of both our students and the general public. To learn to ride a manual (geared) motorcycle is no easy task; even if you are an experienced car driver. A motorcycle is a completely different vehicle, which in turn, requires you to perform a range of unique skills such as balance, throttle control, higher levels of concentration, ability to deal with the exposure to varying weather conditions and wind, combination of foot and hand controls, etc.

Thus, if you are a novice rider, with no previous recent experience on a manual bike, and if your expectation is to complete your Compulsory Basic Training (CBT) on the same day, we highly recommend you to do your CBT on an automatic bike; followed by a Gear Conversion Course to learn to ride a manual bike. Alternatively, you should book two (2) days (consecutive days) of CBT Standard on a manual (geared) motorcycle.

Complaints

Nicks Motorcycle Training offers the highest quality training to their students. However, should the student have any complaints with any aspect of their experience with us, please report any informal complaint to your Instructor who will help to resolve the issue. If a formal complaint needs to be made we will take this very seriously, and the student should contact Nick (0779988 714216612) to help resolve the issue.

Behaviour

Nicks Motorcycle Training is a road safety organisation. If at any time a student shows an unsuitable attitude, or demonstrates unacceptable risk-taking or failure to comply with an instruction that endangers themselves or others on the road, the course will be terminated at that point and fees forfeited. The instructor as a licensed DVSA assessor has the final decision in this matter. Additional training may be at the company’s discretion.

DL196 (CBT) Certificates

If you have been issued a DL196 (CBT) certificate for your Compulsory Basic Training (CBT) we advise you to take a photograph and copy of the certificate immediately after being issued and to keep these safe as well as at hand, in case you need to refer back to it. If your DL196 certificate is lost, stolen or damaged, we now require an average of fourteen (14) days to reissue. Due to Data Protection, requests can only be accepted if made by the named person on the Certificate and must be made through our online secure platform for ID verification purposes. Cost is £20 + postage if applicable.

English Language

Unless you are bringing a translator who is able and willing to accompany you during the full duration of your course, you must be able to speak and understand English at a good conversational level. Since we must ensure that you have understood all the instructions and syllabus as laid out by the Driving Vehicle Standards Agency, and given the high-risk nature of motorcycling, in the event that your instructor deems your English insufficient to attain a satisfactory two-way communication, your training (or test) may be terminated for that day. This may impact your course (and or test).

General aptitude

The vast majority of people we see successfully complete their training. However, motorcycling isn’t for everyone. We can usually identify people who aren’t suited to riding very quickly. In this instance we terminate the training after a detailed explanation on our reasons why. We will offer a part refund of the course fee which will be based on training already taken. This decision is not taken lightly and is made solely for the safety and well-being of the student.

Privacy Policy

We do not store credit card details nor do we share these details with any 3rd parties.

All information passed on to Nicks Motorcycle Training will be treated as confidential.

However, we share some customer information (e.g. name, course, postcode) with the DVSA, which may in turn share these details to other third parties (e.g. survey Companies, etc.).

We reserve the right to utilise your personal information (e.g. Driving Licence Number, National Insurance Number, Date of Birth, etc.) to perform DVLA checks (online and or over the phone) on you, so that we can ensure that you will be riding your vehicle legally during your training. By accepting our Terms & Conditions, and making your booking with us, you agree to this policy.
